WTDHPL Supports the fightforthefuture.org “Battle for the Net” initiative with banner PSAs

Fight For The Future, a grassroots organization that styles themselves “A nonprofit working to expand the internet’s power for good,” has been a leader in the fight against the United States of America’s FCC (Federal Communications Commission) plan to eliminate net neutrality rules. The elimination of these rules is widely viewed as giving benefits to large telecommunications firms and major businesses at the expense of the freedoms of individuals and small-to-medium businesses.

WTDHPL is dedicated to the freedoms of individuals and businesses alike, and is supporting the fightforthefuture.org “Battle for the Net” initiative (www.battleforthenet.com) with graphic banner PSAs on most pages of the WTDHPL.info website encouraging users in the U.S. to visit the Battle for the Net website and contact their lawmakers to oppose the plan, and insist on keeping net neutrality alive.

There are four six different ads, running in one hour rotation. The ads are scheduled to run from December 9, 2017 until December 13, 2017. The FCC’s scheduled vote to end net neutrality rules is December 14, 2017, so if this issue interests you, please take action before then.

We’re not using their pop-up ad (their preferred method for concerned websites to help raise awareness) for two reasons. Firstly and most importantly, our testing shows that it relies on densely “minified” (reduced/obfuscated) javascript code, which, while non-threatening, we don’t want to encourage our visitors to run, and secondly, pop-up advertising is an obnoxious scourge. However, net neutrality is an important freedom issue, and we want to show our support.
